@Tony you have to set up rules so your provider doesnt get upset, even though an instance should be fun for everyone, a provider who just doesnt care as long as its not illegal doesnt exist yet.
if you have users you have to consider what type of instances they interact with and basically abide by that admin so the users dont leave because of a defed, i used to post about grafs real name at one point on a private instance but my users actually interact with poast so now i have to put their thoughts into mind and be very careful with what my users post about now. if it contains his real name grafs ego is going to be shattered and people will leave, making this instance pointless, FSE is invuln basically because graf is friends with pete
i have to actually janny my users now if they do something wrong, i don't like confronting them, i just like having a good time on my instance. i don't like kicking out people who use my stuff. it does hurt
theres also a lot of security you have to keep in mind with these things, i am now a higher target of hax and such just because i run an instance.
it's fun, but it has some costs

@Tony s/provider/provider[s]
i have to keep my domain name provider and my vps provider in mind, typically they're somewhat relaxed but my domain name provider has done crazy shit before

I haven't run into any issues, but I'm also not popular and have like 5 monthly users

@Tony my instance is also not popular either but i don't want to put away the small userbase i have and ward off future users
i like being able to provide a home for everyone

By providing a home for everyone, you exclude people naturally. idk, my think is that I won't make a fuss unless it's illegal - like legislation illegal.
