@monsterislandcolonizer if your single it's worth the risk. Once I had a family to support I am not willing to.

I stopped paying for private health insurance years ago, free public insurance is just as good in Australia. I was paying 400 MO for two

I thought about canceling my plan and paying out of pocket, I'd save money unless I get a serious injury or disease.
The other issue is that given my current insurance and through a series of fortuitous events, I accidentally ended up with a doctor who is the chair of a medical school at a major university. I'm not special or anything, it was the result of a series of retirements and reassignments, available network providers, and him being one of the doctors left to field the patients.

I'm not sure the university would still see me. I think they have contracts with my primary provider to provide outpatient services. The insurance is tied to the primary.

Can't you see that doctor unless you have that insurance?

And I like this doctor because he doesn't have anyone looking over his shoulder like some lower tier lackie, so he just goes right to the issue. He's not the type to run one million unnecessary tests because of some fear of being fired or committing malpractice.
He's also antivaxx and super independent in his attitude. He dgaf about other people's opinions. He's his own man. I appreciate that.
