Yes, this is indeed my Flipboard account which is now federated after a ton of hard work by our team to integrate #ActivityPub into our backend. I'm incredibly excited about this. I saw @mike@flipboard.com & @espn! I wondered if @mike@flipboard.social had turned on #ActivityPub for everyone on Flipboard proper yet, & it seems not yet.

@darnell @me_the_fl00f @hankg @cstross Yes I think going forward editorial opinion will be important to select best accounts to follow instead of follower counts. In the not too distant future we'll also likely start seeing best accounts to follow in the Fediverse broken into segments like Threads, Mastodon, Wordpress, Pixelfed, Flipboard etc.

I expect Threads to dominate the list early on once they activate #ActivityPub.

@cstross@wandering.shop The thing with the best ranked accounts is, if there is no interaction, they are maybe still ranked like that but are not interesting or just loose followers as it happened with big accounts which think, I am great in all other networks so it has to be here the same.
@mike@flipboard.com Just had a look at your — is it a public profile ? flipboard.com is a pain to use in a browser, to slow so, not interesting. Even it has #ActivityPub implemented. And no, a app is also not interesting as it is limited to operating systems with a app store. Beside of that, if the first thing you see is a cookie popup something, you will not catch people which are in the Fedi since long.

@me_the_fl00f @hankg @darnell @cstross good point. I’m going to see if there’s a way to have two join dates, one for when a user joined the fediverse and one for when they joined Flipboard. Both are important as we fully adopt ActivityPub.
With respect to blocking, instances need to be productive and have useful communities that provide true value to others. I am striving to ensure Flipboard does this so others can benefit from the curation many have done for years in an open and positive way.

That is not the idea of the fedi and how it works. I expect Threads to dominate the list early on once they activate #ActivityPub.That is also not important as many fedi admins decided to block Threads and also BlueSky.
If people follow only this super accounts then it will be toxic as in other networks. Which is something the people which are long here did not want and will not accept.

Both are important as we fully adopt ActivityPub.Not as you think. Because if you move a account between fedi instances the (new) join date is when the new account was created. So, it says nothing about the real join. And people can have more then one account.

@me_the_fl00f @hankg @darnell @cstross yes, you’re right. The join date represents the account creation date and not the date the user first joined the fediverse. For example my account on Flipboard.social says I joined in February 2923 but I originally joined on mastodon,social in Nov 2022 and the redirected my account to Flipboard.social when we started our instance. This is interesting and raises a good question on how we should handle this.

@me_the_fl00f @hankg @darnell @cstross Federated accounts from Flipboard have already been created. I.e. It’s not like we are making new accounts in the fediverse which mirror Flipboard accounts. They exist exactly as before only now can be followed in the fediverse.
I’m glad I started this test with my account because these are really good questions we need to sort thru.

@me_the_fl00f @hankg @darnell @cstross ok. Given how the join date is interpreted in the Fediverse we can set the join date to the date our instance goes live and the account is first federated.

You join now the fedi so, you can‘t use the date when the account was created at your platform. I mean yes, you can if you want to loose trust from the beginning.
