One thing that I was unprepared for as an adult was how much hassle the municipal recycling bin would become.

One of the best reasons to become involved in local politics IMO!(Some cities do it much better than others, and municipal curbside composting is the friggin bomb)

Our recycling bin looks the same as the trash bin, just a different color (also has wheels).

Amadi Lovelace (amaditalks@wandering.shop)'s status on Sunday, 03-Dec-2023 05:05:43 JST Amadi Lovelace @GreenSkyOverMe it's an awkward size and shape, and just heavy enough when empty -- let alone when full -- that it would benefit from having wheels which it doesn't have. It's basically the cheapest refuse bin one can buy in a hardware store, but blue, with the city's logo and some info about recycling printed on it.

Yeah, plastic recycling is an absolute mess everywhere, 90% just ass-covering greenwashing by petrochem, but then it’s hard to just give up on it because that 10% is actually doing some good…. -

Amadi Lovelace (amaditalks@wandering.shop)'s status on Sunday, 03-Dec-2023 05:21:08 JST Amadi Lovelace @inthehands We've only had them recently, and they haven't even been rolled out to the whole city yet. We had a one bag system, where all recyclables could be put into any blue colored bag, and our grocery stores all used blue plastic bags for that reason. Now we have a plastic bag ban, and recycling bins that are a hassle to move to and from the curb, the most common plastics aren't permitted and the plastic that is allowed still probably ends up in a landfill anyway.
