      @PurpCat @adachi @newt @jihadjimmy @meso EFI is platform-agnostic and it just happened to be a byproduct of Itanium, IIRC. There's been a few x86 EFI machines even before AMD64 found mass adoption.

      @jihadjimmy @adachi @mint @newt @meso also Intel to shut out AMD (efi was part of itanium which was a blatant ploy to kill amd, allegedly Intel made another competing x86 64-bit extension after ia64 was a flop when amd went that route and Microsoft told them to fuck themselves)

      @adachi @mint @newt @meso

      The whole point of EFI secure boot (not even U anymore, since BIOS is deprecated, you're stuck with this shit like it or not in new hardware) was for Microshit and Crapple to try and block consumer hardware from booting cool software instead of their proprietary malware dogshit operating systems, something that they luckily failed to achieve to some extent, too bad we're stuck with broken proprietary implementations now.

      @mint @adachi @newt @jihadjimmy @meso From what I know Apple is what really made EFI big in the sense that they were the first to really ship consumer level hardware with it.

      AMD64 was adopted at that time, but the OSes were still widely 32 bit and many of the boards could handle nowhere near 4GB RAM.
