   I can't help but notice that many pronunciations and transliterations of #English loan words in #Korean are based on #BritishEnglish. As a #PhilippineEnglish speaker, it is confusing.

   Example: computer
   * Philippine English: kom-pyu-ter (neutral and syllabic)
   * British English: kom-pyu-to
   * Korean transliteration: 컴퓨터
   * Korean romanization: keom-pyu-teo
   * Korean pronunciation: kom-pyu-to

   If it was me, the transliteration would've been 컴퓨텔 (keom-pyu-ter) or 컴퓨텔루 (keom-pyu-ter-ru).

   Again, I'm still learning. These are just my observations coming from Philippine English and #Filipino #languages.

     @MisuseCase Yep! The rules are still confusing for me, since I'm only self-studying (I wish I have someone to ask, I have so many questions!) Indeed, there's always that ending at the end, but it's not consistent which is confusing me. I think I misunderstood that rule. 😅😅

     @youronlyone I am not very super into learning Korean but I’ve noticed that the way English words end up being spelled in Korean and the way they are pronounced in Korean are, uh, very different.

     Also there seem to be some rules about spelling in Hangeul about not sticking consonants right next to each other (which you can do in English) so you have to stick a 으 in there.

     @MisuseCase Hahaha! So very true!

     For us Filipinos, the English word sounds the same regardless if used within the Filipino language as a loan word, like "computer" is "kom-pyu-ter", so one who doesn't understand a Philippine language can still recognise the English words.

     But Koreans, their pronunciation of English words changes when they switch to Korean, suddenly, the pronunciation is following Korean language rules!

     I guess that's true loaning the word, adapting it to your own local language rules instead of simply transliterating it.

     @youronlyone Also it may be just me but the way Koreans with English language skills pronounce English loanwords while speaking Korean vs. how they pronounce English words while speaking English sounds pretty different. It’s complicated!
