   Learning these new concepts doesn't really make rust shine for me, it just makes it look harder and weirder to learn

     @kirby@lab.nyanide.com Rust was designed for massive sprawling projects where adding all that structure is useful when you scale up to multiple people and millions of lines. (It's the philosophy of Java, too.)
     
     Also alot of Rust features are things functional languages like Haskell and Lisp had in the 90s. It's convoluted because it tries to integrate two separate strands of language evolution (C descendants and ML descendants) together.

     @PurpCat @hiro @kirby nah, c#/.net is microsoft's java, thanks to .netcore it is a proper java finally as it is fully cross platform on windows, mac, linux, android, ios and even web stuff with a cross platform UI toolkit.
     
     rust is still on the way to become the 2020s java, it still lacks a proper cross platform UI toolkit iirc.
