     @ChristopherBRobin At least arcades of yore had a skill element with the "lives" system where you played until you died/lose before having to feed it more quarters. Having it be tied to a timer or something sounds awful

     I think it was Ubisoft's CEO that was thinking of changing the pricing model for games as well. So in the future it won't even be 60 bucks it'll probably be per hour or some shit to get over the 60 bucks companies can get selling you shit.

     @Deplorable_Degenerate Freemium is one thing. You start for free, then you pay to win or whatever. Fine. What we're about to see is the worst of all worlds:
     
     You pay $60 for the game like back in the day. Then you pay a $10/mo fee to play online, but you can't play offline, so really you pay the fee to play at all. Then you pay more for credits or tokens or whatever that you spend make the game actually enjoyable, and also to win at PvP.

     Pay to play is cancer but at least arcades had that element of sociability you can't get from playing games on your phone or getting your data harvested. Seems like a fun time, nowadays the closest you can get to it is a Dave and Buster's which is overpriced as all hell.

     @ChristopherBRobin thanks to the Internet, the Third Place, where you go and you do a thing but also you meet people, is dying for all things that can be done online. People can, to some real extent, socialize online, but it doesn't cut it imo. It's not the real thing. Not yet. Maybe when we get fully immersive The Matrix-tier VR, but not yet.      @BroDrillard Once you get into the mod communities it basically never ends. Then there's also indie games. 95% of them will be trash, but that 5% will have something for you specifically that normie games do not, and it will vary by person

     I've honestly spent the last decade playing indie and retro games almost exclusively.
