Hard seeing so many large-ish accounts so deeply frustrated with Mastodon - in the last week I've seen @TechConnectify @Popehat and @mmasnick discuss their lack of comfort here and how they limit their engagement and interactions.
If BlueSky can get federation with ActivityPub going, I guess that would be a solution - a "brand name" option with resources to run a decent moderation network, and an off-ramp if things get icky there.

Well, I rarely use them either, frankly.
However, the thing about huge accounts kind of free-loading is a thought in my mind.
I took them off the post, b/c I didn't know the context, which you've now corrected me about.

I find myself unable to have sympathy for e.g. popehat's special needs. He's perfectly free to go to another platform and I wish him and the others mentioned well.
"Large-ish" accounts take up large-ish resources to service. There are other platforms where they can pay for their needs. Really, they should have their own fedi and use donations to fund it no? Same as any other professional writer. It's what makes them professionals.
Maybe I'm missing something though, I'm a bit tired these days.

@gemlog My feed is rather tame, so I mostly use CWs when I have comments about #uspol. Some people don't want to read about that topic; it often generates more heat than light; it's not something I frequently write about.
(People who aren't interested in #CanPol, on the other hand, probably shouldn't follow me at all.)
So, like you, I rarely use CWs. Nobody gives me a hard time about it.

I think pro writers should host their own instances. 5 bucks. Come on... commensurate with your donations. I can't think of a system more equitable.
I have my own fired up and ready to go, just as a geezer. My 'home' instance of tilde doesn't want/need donations as he's kept the size to his resources, but I think I did manage to sneak in a donation one time two years ago.
This is all self-organizing, co-operative stuff and I (wrongly) thought popehat was whinging about it.
