    Okay, everyone who was in one of those "wouldn't AI coming to adventure games be disastrous/improbable/weird" conversations we had at @adventurex earlier this month should probably pay attention to this.

    Point and click adventure Zarathustra uses AI Art and AI Voices

    As someone who cannot art for shit, I can absolutely see why a person would do this. And it's not like they're charging money for the game. But I find it somewhat disheartening in a field of game development where "lovingly handcrafted" is kind of a given.

    Well spotted, @gamingonlinux

      Well this is sure to be an interesting one and will no doubt spark up some comments - Zarathustra is an in-development point and click adventure that looks intriguing but the way it's made will raise some eyebrows.

      @clarablackink

      I'm just being glibly self-depracating, but thank you for the vote of confidence. You'll find my Programmer Art in a number of released games.

      It's just that I am a conspicuously better writer, programmer and musician than I am a visual artist, as is the case with many devs in my field.

      @HauntedOwlbear @adventurex @gamingonlinux I always find the idea that someone "can't art" to be a failure of our educational and social systems.

      There are so many ways to art. The biggest thing that makes art is time and a willingness not to give up. Even visually unappealing stuff finds an audience when there's enough passion & truth behind it.

      Massive success is iffy sure but AI art won't fix that. If everything can look phenomenal then something else will be the reason for success.

      @clarablackink absolutely. I think adventure games in particular are a stronghold of what are broadly describe as "art games".

      That's sometimes because of a conscious desire to make capital-A Art, but more broadly because its a genre that tends lends itself to very personal stories and forms of expression.

      @HauntedOwlbear I did pick up on that but I also think it's fueling people's desire for AI art.

      Recently read a Nick Cave thing where he talked about how he went to art school and never considered himself to be a musician. It was so absurdly funny and hit at a familiar truth.

      I think we often find our talents to be different than our desires. But still we become what we work at.

      So many video games have "weird" art but that really allows the other proficiencies to shine through...
