     The ADL is a sad cautionary tale about where a virtuous mission will take you when it becomes monomania.

     I really, really hope they get their heads out of their asses — or that a more circumspect organization picks up their original missing of fighting actual antisemitism. Because we urgently need people doing that right now, and the ADL ain’t it.

     Indeed, and I think the ADL has •exacerbated• antisemitism by trying to argue that any criticism of the Israeli government is antisemitic, which has ended up wrongly implying that all Jews everywhere are responsible for that gov and every awful thing it does. Don’t think ADL would agree that’s what they’re implying, but they really have kind of backed themselves into that corner.

     I do. I think Netanyahu and his friends want me to feel unsafe as a Jew, so I'll accept their crimes as necessary evils.

     What a slice of history. Thank you.

     I’m personally very sympathetic to members of long-marginalized desiring land, independence, and self-determination that are not subject to the whims of the forces that have oppressed them. So I approach Israel as an idea with far more sympathy than the song.

     However, that desire requires extreme care lest it go to evil places — and as you point out, the song makes that warning and the likes of Likud should have heeded it.

     @inthehands @micahflee afaik, ADL has always been a Zionist project. they use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of anti-Semitism, which is that criticism of Israel is anti-Semitism.

     much like how tankies will say that criticism of Lenin, Stalin, the USSR, etc is "anti-communist" (no it isn't.)
