   One of the few ways I can see us salvaging some kind of path toward peace out of this Likud-Hamas-engineered catastrophe would be if Netanyahu and his party were utterly tarred, feathered, and run out of Israeli politics over it. Imagine an Israeli-Palestinian coalition rejecting this whole war and its architects, and taking a pound of political flesh from them for starting it.

   This is wishful thinking, but we need to keep hope alive.

     One of the most effective political strategies in existence is giving people hope they can improve the world, make peace, bring progress - not just try to hold back a fascist tide. There's a reason Obama built his campaign on marketing "HOPE" & "YES WE CAN" to voters. Without it, apathy & disillusionment breed. And then politicians wonder why turnout flags. Upbraiding voters is not as effective as inspiring them - just a lot easier for the people who want to win elections.

     I agree completely, and I’d say further that •destroying• hope is a crucial part of what Likud and Hamas both hope to achieve: to get people to support genocide, they have to believe it is the only possible choice.

     Likud is indeed a party founded on principles of ethnic cleansing, which is why I’ve taken to referring to the regional coalition for genocide as “Likud-Hamas.” (Note that the post you’re replying to never once treats Netanyahu as the source of all the problems.)

     But your “whole society remark” — the premise that an entire society made up of individual human beings thinks with a single mind — is itself a dangerous and ultimately genocidal thought. Watch it.

     @inthehands @chargrille changing the prime sinister won't change a society that is founded on colonial mass murder. listen to what other Likud politicians have said. Netanyahu is not exceptional. Ayalet Shaked is one of the worst of them.
