     @BowsacNoodle They’re basically free. The last hatching from one of the hens had 19 eggs under her, and she just up and left them after the first couple hatched. Didn’t have any more to brood them so they all ended up dead and peeped

     @givenup @WashedOutGundamPilot Chicken tractor. PVC is an easy option. Wood is good but sucks if your property is hilly- gets heavy quick.

     @givenup @BowsacNoodle The only ones hatching their own are the free rangers, and aside from the occasional 1/4 cup of cracked corn I throw out it’s free. When we had the high point there were at least 24 hens we could spot running around, they just constantly respawn here

     Things are weird because we’ve sold/given away all the brooders latey as we wind things down. Plus the turkeys kinda put the smaller birds on edge

     they ate all the grass in their pen, but i can't do shit, so all i got is bags of feed.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @BowsacNoodle free? they cost you a potentially eaten egg, and any money you've spend on feeding chickens. a broody hen will sit any eggs hers someone elses, another species, she really don't care, so chicken moms usually end up raising a collection of her fellow flocks children as well as her own.

     @givenup @BowsacNoodle If you have people around you can maybe ask if they got hay to throw away. IDK if they can eat moldy/old stuff, though. I usually just shovel in the scrapings and tailings from the bales. Gives enough cover
