   Yeah but what are you gonna use mumble for besides voip? It does that very well. The UI is also nice and clear. Sending images is a bit jank but that's about it.

     @dcc @7666 @suprem_dolbojob @dushman @julia I wasn't talking about normies, I was talking about intelligent people using graphical applications on normal operating systems. Command line is different since you really are just composing different programs and using text streams as an interchange format while Plan 9 also neatly sidesteps the issue with the emphasis on instantiating everything as dynamically populated file trees over a common interchange protocol. Anyway, each approach has their upsides and downsides but for the usecase being mentioned here I absolutely prefer everything under one proverbial roof, whether that be a monolithic graphical application or virtual file system.

"do one thing and do it well" for applications is a fucking bastardization of the philosophy. sure, you want to keep them seperate? write a seperate unixy voip software, and a unixy chat software, and unixy auth, and the other components. but then link them fucking together into a convenient package, which is something seemingly almost no fucking fosstard can manage. in foss you get ux, you get working well, and you get functionality. pick 2 at best

     it just tries to use its own theme that looks almost indistinguishable from a completely unthemed qt app

     @dushman @7666 @julia moving the goalposts, this is about you claiming mumble "ftw" over discord.
     the ui is okay but its not that nice it needs some serious ux rework. the images arent a bit jank they're extremely jank and its clearly a feature you use, so im sure youd be able to see how annoying it is that it only accepts images and not other media, how they're all butchered and jpegified to fit it in the data url the protocol uses, how bigger ones often dont fit the chat window, how theres no proper way to select and send, your literally ctrl+v'ing or going through menu items (clear ui lmao), how the chat constantly jumps to that top (i'll excuse this as its a qt bug)
     clearly that you have to mention sending images you do want to use it for more than voip
     if its really "only for voip" then turn on the minimal view in mumble and only use that
