BowserNoodle ☦️Man I hate the dead Internet so much. I just want to find some posts from early 2000s to 2015s forums where someone is talking about niche things related to sewing machines. I want something in between total bottom of the barrel and $150 because I only want to do basic straight stitches and the ability to go backwards, and for some reason that doesn't exist. >Sorry you can only get a functional unit that isn't garbage if you buy this one with 17 types of computer controlled stitches, or refurb something old. You have to choose between $30 barely functional Chinesium, questionable old unit, or $150 computer controlled entry level machine and there is no in between! Okay I understand the sunk-cost aspect, but make them upgradable or modulator and I will consider it. Otherwise it's paying for crap I don't need. Can there at least be a diy scene for this of an open source upgradeable unit?
@Tjunta@BowsacNoodle I honestly didn't even know computerized sewing machines were a thing... I would look at second hand or thrift stores. Some shops that do repair work on sewing machines also sell refurbished.
@mouseybear@Tjunta Thanks. Yeah they are a thin, but probably not what I'm actually seeing at the $150 range. That's more of the popular name brands and such. Do you know if the super cheapo ones in the $40 range work well enough for simple straight stitches (not the stapler looking ones)? The cost to repair my machine is not worth given its age, (old singer clone). I mostly want something to sew through nylon and common outdoor technical fabrics, doing some MYOG and reusing old components from past builds.
