indentation consulting services (psykose@donotsta.re)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Oct-2023 14:13:42 JST indentation consulting services @untitaker i never used actual t9(the thing that autocompletes), just manual entry. and yeah it's the haptics, i sent so many messages just from muscle memory from my pocket..
it's similar to how i still sometimes respond to stuff while not even looking at the screen because a keyboard also has feedback. doesn't really work when grug smashing a glass surface..
(but by far the worst offender of this is the car infotainment stuff where they removed all the buttons where one actually has to use them while driving lol)Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: likes this. -

Markus Unterwaditzer (untitaker@woodland.cafe)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Oct-2023 14:13:43 JST Markus Unterwaditzer @psykose do you just not want the haptic feedback or lack thereof of a touchscreen? I found T9 in the old days horrible

indentation consulting services (psykose@donotsta.re)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Oct-2023 14:14:47 JST indentation consulting services @untitaker (that's not to say people can't get good with touchscreens or that they're unusable, but saying they're strictly inferior for fixed-function input that doesn't have to change isn't inaccurate imo) Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: likes this. -

Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: (lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Oct-2023 14:22:23 JST Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: @psykose @untitaker And you can actually use those phones comfortably with a single hand so you don't need to stop doing whatever you were doing, including cooking/washing/… because it still works with wet/gloved hands.
The interface latency is also much more consistent and typically lower (much slower throughput though) on feature phones, meaning you can navigate around by muscle-memory much more easily, specially as the keyboard can be used to select items in menus.
But that's more of a software thing. -

Polychrome :blabcat: (polychrome@poly.cybre.city)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Oct-2023 14:31:39 JST Polychrome :blabcat: @lanodan @psykose @untitaker it's been nearly two decades and I still make horrible typos/autocorrect mishaps on touch screens. My typing was a lot more accurate on a keypad and T9.
I got one of the modernized "Nokia" phones recently and was surprised to learn my keypad typing muscle memory managed to go back on par within less than a couple of days. It's a bit like riding a bicycle.
(Sidenote: it's not a Nokia cellphone until it survives a second floor drop and being drove over by a truck, and most of these remakes certainly won't.)Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: likes this. -
