i said referring to /api/v1/instance to see info is convenient only if you do it with one instance, if you're doing it to more than one instance at once it's gonna be a pain in the ass of switching tabs and that's why fedilist is more comfortable, since if you're doing more than one instance at once, you're clearly doing it to compare shit -

@lina @kirby @ruina A large chunk was auto-generated spambots, rest is advertisement bots who sign up periodoically and post about some indian/vietnameese hotel, and the ones who leave after looking around. -

@iamtakingiteasy @kirby @ruina what's the point of keeping them around? bloats up the numbers and the database, like i guess it's a drop in the ocean compared to all the posts that eientei stores, with the media
the only practical use i can imagine is that it holds the username and therefroe a specific bot name can't be reused, but what's stopping someone, like that guy who did spam attacks on instances with open registration from using randomly generated usernames instead? -

a program that runs as a daemon getting the user count from several instances on that api endpoint, and posts it in this format
pigpoopballs.com: [number] users (+/- [number] difference from last query)
x.com: [same format as above]
just as a meme, maybe ping someone if the number for a certain instance increases. -
