     @rgulick Please read the article in the link and/or watch the video and you will see that the Small Web is not about telling people to run their own server.

     It’s about making having your own place on the web a 30-second process that requires no technical knowledge whatsoever to set up or maintain. That’s why I’ve been working years on it. Because it’s not a simple thing to do (especially when you have no funding to speak of). But we’re getting there.

     I like the concept, but it's not viable for a lot of people. I'm a web developer, and I have clients who cannot even sign up for a webhosting account by themselves. Telling them they need to run their own server would send them back to bed with the covers pulled over their head.

     @rgulick No worries; once it’s out, it’ll be easier to see what I’m talking about.

     And, yes, of course, there will always be folks who go Google and Facebook even if there are usable alternatives. But having those alternatives still matters.

     @rgulick Kitten is the underlying server/platform for developers to build Small Web apps that will support such interactions.

     I’ll be building my own, called Place, that will enable you post publicly and communicate privately on your own Small Web place.

     So, yes. But baby steps :)

     Let's say it turns out to be super-simple to create your own instance, and that's no longer perceived as a barrier.

     It seems that what people are drawn to is the ability to easily interact with others within a community, in a public or semi-public enviroment. Will Kitten support that kind of interaction?
