     These are just randomly placed. I'm not even going to actually engage with this except York absolutely could not solve it. He bumbled through both of his cases and let quite a few people die before he actually bothered to put two and two together.
     
     He could intuit the death note mechanics but only because some supernatural plot device he hits up will explicitly explain it to him.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @DrRyanSkelton Death Note is a fun watch, it's a "I'm 14 and this is deep" kinda show with various blatantly comedic moments, but it's okay. A nice throwback to ye olden times (2006)

     @MeBigbrain @Druid @WashedOutGundamPilot Also I am not sure Columbo would fare too well. Most of his tricks rely on the murderer being a high society polite sort who appreciates charm and wit. In a situation where handing his business card to Light could lead to a heart attack, the writers would need to have their thumbs on the scale hard for him to figure that out early enough to not make that mistake. He has amazing instincts but THAT amazing would be a stretch.
     
     That said, if he does figure it out before Light gets his name its all over for Light.

     @DrRyanSkelton @Druid @WashedOutGundamPilot I think Battler could solve it. It's worth noting that his story was WAY harder than a simple murder-mystery, he had to disprove supernatural events as they happened in front of him.
