It's fun to replace terms to expose the motivation for their use. So for example, replacing "cancel culture" with "consequences," or "political correctness" with "treating people with respect." Then the news starts to make sense: "Celebrity receives a standing ovation from crowd as they oppose consequences," "Our schools have gone too far on treating people with respect." In fact, there was a browser extension that actually did some of these replacements for us - does anyone remember? Brilliant!

There needs to be one that fixes UK websites so "benefit" is returned to its original meaning of "social security," back before they tried to rename it and change the terminology in our culture. But social security welfare cheques are not fucking "benefits," they're not bonuses, they're not perks, they're supposed to be a safety net. Again, news might become more honest and less palatable: "Politician calls for greater cuts to social security."

@antiaall3s Oh yes! I think I prefer "accountability" to "consequences" actually, good one - though almost anything similar is better than "cancel culture" haha!

@MediaActivist Cancel culture could also be accountability.

@MediaActivist Here's one Firefox browser extension that swaps 'migrant' and 'expat' (to show the loaded associations w these terms): https://github.com/csmeyns/migrant-to-expat

very limited version of what you're talking about though, i'm sure there are better ones!

@MediaActivist Another word I'd like to see a replacement for is terrorist. It's always a sign the writer has stopped thinking, or is pushing an agenda. There are no terrorists, just people.

@antiaall3s Ooh yes, "woke" is always an interesting one. That example could work as a replacement! I loved a clip a few months back where a Black woman was asked about her television show being "woke," and before replying she first asked the interviewer what they mean by "woke." It's wonderful to witness establishment media figures and conservatives in general have to actually articulate what their definition of "woke" is - they expose themselves.

@MediaActivist Love the method. As long as the term manages to unmask the rhetorical trick they try to use, their derailment perpetrator-victim-reversal blame game, it works. What would you suggest to use when the term "woke" gets used in a similar way? That one is tricky. "The politician made fun of woke culture gone mad" He made fun of non-discrimination framed it as mad?
