   honestly in a related thread with @Moon i was reminded that i was thinking about what id want from like a social media app, in this case what would i want as the "discord killer"
   
   -vc, with screensharing with audio
   -Free, open source
   -ability to host your own servers from your machine
   -ability to make custom emojis, and able to react with them
   -~50mb filesize upload limit at the very least
   -ability to have gifs as pfps
   -ability to dm, call, and video with ppl
   -ability to make bots for your own server p easily
   -ability to have bots that communicate with other chat platforms such as irc, xmpp, matrix, discord, guilded, skype, etc
   -ability to set custom bitrate for VC
   -ability to hide blocked user messages on clientside
   -available on linux, and bsd with no downsides (though if its free and open source they would have p good compatibility tbh)
   -easy to use for non tech savvy ppl, so that it actually kinda takes off
   ability to make custom color themes, and text roles/highlights
   -ability to encrypt your own data so that it isn't gonna be sold to random advertisers
   
   ik some other have better points than i do and im probably missing a few, essentially i want discord but not shit paywalls and more user customization, better linux/bsd experiences and the ability to DIY servers as an option

     @Mondobizarrro @Moon uhh, it should be federated so that it doesnt die in two years, and i’d think it’d personally be cool if it had a little club penguin-type room thing for voice chat with a proximity vc system

     @shroomie @Moon oh this would be good, i meant to imply federated because that was kinda my implication with "the ability to DIY and host your own servers"

     @Mondobizarrro @Moon I just want a modern KDX. Everything you listed here is a pretty good action item, but nothing has matched the KDX user experience to me and probably nothing ever will.
