my fairphone 4 was acting up after the upgrade to android 13. it seems like the drivers for 5g networking is acting up, so i had to go back to 4g. not a big deal to be honest, 4g is more than enough for my purposes anyway. what i have learned yet again is never update your phone :mokouCool:

@gaige@neue.city If you don't need 5g you shouldn't be using it, not enabling 5g saves a lot of battery.

@gaige@neue.city When I know my phone needs to last a long time I even put my phone into 2G/EDGE mode. It's slow but it lasts like 5 days like this.

@gaige@neue.city Yeah that sucks, being forced to use the battery draining 4G network always.

@SuperDicq thats an option for two more years, before the state shuts down the 2g network just like they did with the 3g in 2019

@jonossaseuraava@post.ebin.club @gaige@neue.city Other than the screen being on I think the cell modem is the most power draining component on your phone. Unless you're maybe running a lot of bloat that uses a lot of CPU time.

@SuperDicq The tracking chip is indeed the most power draining component, as the screen should be off most of the time and when the screen is off, really the SoC should be off, as you shouldn't be using it.

It seems that actively ratting out the device's current location uses a lot of processing power.

@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com Yeah if you do use a phone it is obviously the best to put it in airplane mode when you're not using it and not expecting any calls. Also saves the most battery.

If you have a hardware switch like on the Librem or Pinephone even better.
