Mircea Kitsune (mirceakitsune@baraag.net)'s status on Wednesday, 28-Sep-2022 21:02:12 JST Mircea Kitsune @ryo Unfortunately this is sometimes true... namely as woke fascist behavior seems to be making its way into #FOSS nowadays. I use #Firefox because it's the best in my book and I legitimately don't have any real complaints, though I've seen #Mozilla do stupid things in the past and called them out.

If you prefer a more out of the box privacy alternative to Furryfox, I can recommend LibreWolf, it still requires some mitigation, but it's not as insanely much as what's the case with Furryfox.arcanicanis likes this. -

Mircea Kitsune (mirceakitsune@baraag.net)'s status on Wednesday, 28-Sep-2022 21:08:02 JST Mircea Kitsune @ryo Thanks. FF is working well for me and I have everything set up for ages, been my only browser for nearly 20 years now I think? But it is a big product and those are typically targeted, so users should always be on the lookout and ready to stop any dumb decision from being taken.

Mircea Kitsune (mirceakitsune@baraag.net)'s status on Wednesday, 28-Sep-2022 21:20:46 JST Mircea Kitsune @ryo Bonus fact: #Mozilla got lots of love from me after they caused panic in the #British government a few years ago. #Firefox was the first browser to implement #DHCP which broke their "for the children TM" nationwide #censorship apparatus and caused a state of emergency in the #UK gov because heresy was no longer censored. IIRC British politicians even called in a meeting with the company... the fucking times we live in ?

Mircea Kitsune (mirceakitsune@baraag.net)'s status on Wednesday, 28-Sep-2022 21:21:24 JST Mircea Kitsune @ryo Only thing I remember explicitly being annoyed by lately is their newsletter going woke: I ultimately unsubbed and only enabled Firefox related news. Too much crying about hate or "misinformation" or whatever. Wish they'd stick to the rule of less caring about social issues, more caring about giving everyone free private and secure software to show the middle finger to society and do what they want.

x0x7@pawoo.net's status on Wednesday, 28-Sep-2022 21:25:41 JST x0x7 @ryo I'm starting to develop 10% agreement when I used to be 0% with Richard Stallman on javascript. Maybe fuck javascript and the web by extension. Even the free software is locked down and controlling. Let's companies spy on you. Gives government more insight on its population that any other software pattern. Maybe post web is the answer, but I'm only 10% there. Used to be zero though.

寮 (ryo@social.076.ne.jp)'s status on Thursday, 29-Sep-2022 15:01:18 JST 寮 @inference Two problems with the article:
1. Rights are given to you by nature, if you need your rights to be written on a piece of paper (like a "law" or constitution), then you effectively signed away your rights, and they're just privileges instead.
2. You tend to mention security to be commonly forgotten about, but the only example I see is about a smartphone bootloader.
I don't think anyone being pro-free software (not the movement, I mean just free software) would choose a smartphone over a real computer.
The reason why someone would have a smartphone is just to have a cellphone, but all the dumbphones have been taken off the market and/or are no longer compatible with current communication infrastructure (Voice of LTE rather than 2G for example), or banks or governments of most places obligate the use of smartphone crapps in order to use their disservices.
But if you take bootloaders into consideration, it's indeed basically replacing a backdoor for another one rather than outright removing it, because barely anyone considers locking the bootloader after flashing.
Not sure if that even matters anyway, once you install Goolag Crapps after flashing GrapheneOS (I know, it's retarded, but you'll be surprised by how many people actually do that!), then whether the bootloader is locked or unlocked no longer matters, as you just installed a new backdoor either way.B̅ repeated this. -

寮 (ryo@social.076.ne.jp)'s status on Thursday, 29-Sep-2022 15:02:36 JST 寮 @inference The funniest thing back when I was on the PINE64 forum was how people bought a PinePhone, and the first thing they ask is how to install and use WhatsApp on it.
I just couldn't help but think "why didn't you just buy an Android phone then?". -
