@ryanhoulihan
I think we're all on the spectrum, and there is nothing wrong in that.

Does that work for you?
Or is it just as bad?
I'm thinking like asexual.

Except for anti fascist, that one is fine.

Bob Thomson (bobthomson70@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 17:32:43 JST Bob Thomson @ryanhoulihan it seems to me we are increasingly understanding that our generally superficial discussions about our innermost thoughts, feelings and wants means we are only now just attempting to understand each other at all. A, maybe trivialising example for me is the discussions about inner monologue and ability or not to visualise objects in our minds. We really have little understanding of how other people see and experience the world at all and most of our curent understanding is simplistic

Bob Thomson (bobthomson70@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 17:34:41 JST Bob Thomson @ryanhoulihan so it boils down to a really fuzzy and vague categorisation which took decades to even get back to where more ancient cultures were in accepting the spectrum of human existence. Some western religions have a lot to answer for there I think. Closing minds off and pushing them down a single path never helps anything.

Bob Thomson (bobthomson70@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 17:50:55 JST Bob Thomson @ryanhoulihan I’ve never bothered with Tik Tok or Instagram myself as I’m not mad about video content and prefer to read - there you go, another preference thing :) That’s interesting though, and can’t be anything other than a good thing. With any luck younger generations will fit the curent cliches and have more empathy and understanding of the different strokes of different folks, which can only make the world a better place, despite the mewling of elder generations to the contrary.

Shawn K. Quinn (skquinn@toot.community)'s status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 18:02:58 JST Shawn K. Quinn @ryanhoulihan good point, in a broader sense I believe that there are many fine points between pure male and pure female and the definition of what qualifies as masculine or feminine behavior does change over time. Of particular note, pink used to be the boy's color many years ago.

I agree the word isn't enough. That said, I do like the fact that it puts light to the truth: non-binary rejects binary. It's almost flippant/witty about it, and I appreciate that.Kind of like queer being reclaimed, calling out the foolishness of binary with non-binary makes me smile in a very dry humour sort of way.
But yeah, we gonna need a better word. Enby as a neologism is a good start, IMO. Keeps the history/etymology but also is a new thing, free of binary's baggage.

nícia cruz (niciacruz@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 13-Oct-2023 14:22:10 JST nícia cruz @ryanhoulihan that's why I prefer the term "gender non conforming", it better expresses the way I feel about myself. but, in reality is a bit more than that. I believe I'm genderless!
