NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Oct-2023 17:24:19 JST NEETzsche @crunklord420 TTS is intended to be multipurpose but ends up not being so great because of that fact. Is it a chess board or a figurine board? And so on. It can do all of that stuff and do it somewhat decently, but because it's not a real table, and because its interface isn't designed to accommodate a specific game or even type of game, it's always frustrating to actually use. -

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 04:34:12 JST NEETzsche Oh okay sure. They do use it to play these games but I didn’t even think to consider it piracy. The business model is selling physical figurines, not 3D scans of them.

CrunkLord420 (crunklord420@clubcyberia.co)'s status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 04:34:13 JST CrunkLord420 @NEETzsche @coin it seems like most people play Warhammer 40k and something called "Arkham Horror". People distribute their assets via discord channels because the workshop gets DMCA'd. Sounds pretty piracy to me (based). -

CrunkLord420 (crunklord420@clubcyberia.co)'s status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 04:37:08 JST CrunkLord420 @NEETzsche @coin well Arkham Horror is a card game. They're literally scanning the cards. They're physically simulated digital cards of a physical card game.
The Warhammer 40k war game is gatekept by these expensive models. You literally cannot be poor and play the game. Games Workshop doesn't want you to be able to play the war game without buying their figurines. They would be able to prove damages in a court.NEETzsche likes this. -

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 04:40:32 JST NEETzsche I was talking about 40k but yes. I used to run Apprentice/MWS/Cockatrice to play Magic in a very similar fashion. These are a lot more ad hoc than TTS, by the way, but the nuances to an extent are baked into the game in a way that they just are not in TTS. It was usually used as a testing ground before I went out and bought the cards. Or just as a way to pass some time with friends.
Generally, these games that rely on the ‘authenticity’ of such products enforce it by excluding people who use fake cards/figurines/whatever. There classically hasn’t been a reliance on courts for this. They classically turned a blind eye to the kind of play we’re discussing here.
Now, if TTS users managed to organize competitive tournaments with big prizes, then, it’d have drawn their eye more.

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 04:44:54 JST NEETzsche I’m not an ideologue against piracy to be clear, I’m just not an ideologue for it, either. I’d still be giving Wizards $15 each week to draft Magic if they didn’t woke out, because they offered a cool product and the organization required to set up a formal tournament like that merits the payout.
But lol lmao I’m not doing that shit now because they’re a faggot company now (more than they were before)

CrunkLord420 (crunklord420@clubcyberia.co)'s status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 04:48:49 JST CrunkLord420 @NEETzsche @coin I don't think there's any virtue is giving corporations money because "you like their product". You're not giving it to Wizards, you're giving it to Hasbro who doesn't care about you at all and would kill MTG in a second if they felt like putting the money into government bonds would get them better returns.
On top of that if MTG "died" who cares. All the cards still exist, the game has been made, what, do you really want them to release the next gay crossover deck? Who cares. You have more than enough cards. Just play cockatrice or whatever. likes this. -

smug@smuganimeavatar.xyz's status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 05:03:01 JST smug Making people pay a lot of money for cardboard will beat any government bond by miles.
MTG's secondary market is like half the game. Everything gets rated against market prices (is this pre-built deck worth it? time to sum up the individual card values) and WOTC (or Hasbro, w/e) responds in kind by just reprinting anything that has any value instantly.
A recent cope I've seen is how MTG is a CCG (**collectable** card game), not a TCG, so fuck you if you want to actually play with your cards for a reasonable (lmao) budget and not dump a truck load into your basement so it can age like fine wine and stonks goes up. Now if MTG dies? Then the shit basically becomes worthless over night because the value of the cards is based around the game's image.NEETzsche likes this. -

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 12-Oct-2023 05:03:01 JST NEETzsche I practically through the cards out after each draft most of the time. I was paying for the privilege to go to comic book store, hang out with my friends, and play cards. On the off change I got a money card I treated it like a windfall. Anybody who seriously thinks that the value of these games is purely within the ink-on-cardboard or the little plastic figurines or whatever is a retarded autist, and not in some meme good way.
I say “practically” because I technically didn’t throw them out, and would sometimes build Standard/Modern decks for similar events, but it was mostly Limited for me.
“b-but you could just play it on Cockatrice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Touch grass, like actually
