    > RED has a patent on in-camera loseless RAW that is compressed, and have been aggressively going after other camera makers (including Nikon) for offering the feature.

      @ic3l9 @Moon

      The proprietary file system is just a reskin of FAT32, if you've seen how they generate files, they make 4GB file segments.

      So they really are just taking you for a ride, not even spending on R&D.

      they're not that expensive. Cheaper than film. That's why they got popular. You could buy a Red for the price of renting a Panasonic.

      @splitshockvirus @Moon similar story here, i knew a guy who was into media production stuff (who was also the sort of person who did not believe in skill but instead in the magical powers of expensive brand name equipment)

      @ic3l9 @splitshockvirus they really are top-tier cameras but yeah they're not going to make a bad cameraman good.

      @Moon @splitshockvirus @ic3l9 >> how do you guys know so much about zillion-dollar cameras.

      My profile photo is a gates housing for the RED. Any questions? I helped them resolve the magenta issues in 2012/2013. They are way more responsive than any other. They will take people who buy their equipment serious. Even a decade later they are like sweet.

      I dunno Sony and Arri are faceless so is Nikon and Canon. That’s the downside. I defend the made in USA bad ass camera that crushes them all. Well some are Canadian but they are just our hat.

      RED is a bad ass company at any rate.
