I know this one to the bones. #WorkingClass
"Do you work well under pressure?"
"Yes, I do."
"Great, because we fabricate urgency through poor management, uneven distribution of duties and an inflated sense of self for upper management."

@Selena @ned If I could live out my dreams, I would have stuck with the interview until the “Do you have any questions for us?” portion.
“Yes, you said this is a high pressure environment. Does management ever go under review to determine why they are so poor at fostering a healthy work environment?”
@ned
This was pretty much my latest job interview. I couldn't be arsed to even finish it (didn't need the job that hard), so I just told the recruiter it was a bad fit and logged off.
@adrianmorales I am a creative professional, and making people in my field "work under pressure" which they have unnecessarily created and is not inherent in the job, or even to "work faster" in most cases is the antithesis of what we need to produce.
@ned I don't work well under pressure, why lie about it? I need Kpop music and calming white noise to be playing in order to ease my nerves.
Those are some of my terms and conditions. 😅👍
@ned our corporate values are determination, spunk, and grit!
@schizanon @ned don’t forget to be a passionate rockstar ninja!
@ned @KimSJ
"Can you perform under pressure?"
"I can hum the bohemian rhapsody"
@TranshumanBlues Yup! For me it's when the salaried management decides to knock off early and I see them walk past my office door, that I get to think, "Yes, finally I can get some work done."
@ned Hell, even if it is something that's actually urgent, I can make quicker progress if I just leave the task until 7pm, when they FINALLY go home, get out of my way, and stop changing their minds about what they want done and how they want it done.
I wish this place ran like the other labs I worked at, where management knocked off at 5pm, so that I'd have more time to work without their constant interference.
@TranshumanBlues Yup, "ultra-urgent" is management code for "pet project". :D
@ned At my current job, I've learned that the more urgency my group lead puts on something, the less of a priority I should make it.
I'm a lot less stressed, and I got a promotion less than a year into my time here, so I'd say the technique is working pretty well so far.
