     @raccoon @kaia The Czech layout is even worse. And yes, most of the symbols you can type with special shortcuts. Some are not even printed (see second picture). Officially it is supposed to be QWERTZ, but every state slightly modifies it.

     @raccoon @kaia If you are running Linux, you can even type all German specific characters on a Czech keyboard.

     IIRC the layout was created because typewriters jammed very easily, as you'd often quickly touch keys which would be one beside the other
     
     i'm too lazy to look up if qwertz was made for german typing, but that's a possibility
