There's something really sad about a pile of human remains that has no name, or even date of death. I suppose that's most of us given enough time, but it's still sad.
We cremate the homeless and just dump their ashes into a random hole in the cities. Or, even people without families to contact. People who truly die alone.
No matter what kind of person they were when they died, somebody probably loved them at some point. They were a person with opinions, interests, and feelings just like us.
I'm halfway through watching this video. It's pretty interesting. So far funeral homes are closing despite more people dying because people are less religious, poorer, and so there's less pressure to have a big open casket funeral. I doubt the video will mention it, but I also think it's also the increasing emotional divide between boomer parents and their kids. For instance I'll probably miss my grandfather's funeral because I don't have the cash to fly out to Arizona on short notice. youtube.com/watch?v=TBd7WI0J7w8
I want a mausoleum modeled 1:1 after Sneed's Feed and Seed. All my worldly wealth will be transferred to a foundation that exists solely to keep it in pristine condition for as long as possible.
Just save enough money to make an extravagant gravestone so it’s a huge pain in the ass to move. Be a nigger to the system, be a nigger in death. Salud.
I used to be of the "burn me and tip me into the waste basket, I won't be around to give a shit" opinion, but now I'm seeing the value in being buried on a plot so redditors of the future can seethe about how my skeleton is taking up precious space that could be used to house a wholesome Somali refugee.
If you end up alone and die, eventually you will be checked on, will be discovered, will be hauled off in the meat wagon, will be tagged, bagged, sent to a crematory, will be burned to cinder and compacted, will be put in an impersonal urn, will be dumped on a random plot of land owned by the city and as an added bonus all your things of value will be sold off in an auction.
If the home was closing and they were just going to leave them there, I'd feel a responsibility to take those ashes and at least spread them somewhere nice.
I'm going to be buried in a regular wooden box with all natural materials so that I can rest and decompose into the earth, all remaining organs inside me (unless one of my kids needs one). I just like the idea.
Right, which is why after I finish my schooling and become a medical examiner, I’m going to start my own company to break into the field of private deathcare.
I think family run funeral homes are being squeezed out by the multi-million dollar funeral home corps. Pretty much what's happening in every business field.
