I agree, can definitely see the potential for abuse with editing.
But some warning about the poll resetting would have been appreciated! I would have avoided editing it if I'd known 😅

@feditips this is actually not a bug. When you edit a poll option or the post containing a poll, you can make people vote for the opposite of what they actually voted for.

@feditips The joy of the fediverse is that it is still mostly human - in the best way. You can run a biggish account, and still be a human being, not an anonymous corporate machine.

Yup, warning for poster or notification for responders...
Having said that, there's currently no way of altering your vote, so a warning might be easier to implement?

@feditips Related? As a voter I’ve sometimes seen long, wordy options that are truncated on mobile before I can see what differentiates one from another. There’s no way I know of to inspect the full text of the label. Maybe some clever person could make that enhancement? As it stands, touching any option (hoping to see full text) results in an instant and irrevocable choice, and one *still* has no idea what they’ve voted for. #Poll #Polls #Voting #Mastodon #RFE #RequestForEnhancement #FediTips

It actually stands to reason; people often find after they publish a poll that they could have worded a question or option better, then try, then discover that the meaning of the question or option now takes on a new defining intent - that's unacceptable manipulation, whether intentional or not.
When you start a DM, #Mitra won't let you add/remove addressees; last time I checked, mastodon will - it shouldn't that's a potential breech of privacy & security.

Especially as editing the main post doesn't reset results?
