🐍 So, it's not my photo, not my fence, not my dog, but it IS an excellent, one-shot illustration of why I'm turning myself inside out to come up with the cash for a snake fence. 😳🤦♀️

Uh, looks 😨.
How would such a fence with big holes prevent a thin snake from getting through? Electric?
@jnye
Ah, yes. Didn't see it. Thanks.
Glad I don't have poisonous snakes around here.
Huh, probably expensive then.
@HistoPol @FarhanaMTS
It's hard to see in the pic, but there are two layers to the fence--the regular heavy wire on the inside for the dogs, then an exterior layer of 1/4" hardware cloth. It's very thin, close-weaved wire that will prevent even baby snakes from getting through.
@jnye
Good luck.
@FarhanaMTS
@HistoPol @FarhanaMTS Depends on one's definition of expensive, I guess. But my dog yard is pretty big, and enough of that wire to go all the way around it isn't in my budget any time soon. First I have to have a residence that's much closer to finished. Speaking of which...it's Saturday, so I'm off to The Project Races.
How about this definition of expensive:
it cannot be bought with one's monthly income w/o credit and / or w/o making sacrifices?
@HistoPol @jnye That's what the 1/4" hardware cloth is for. I also had to make a second gate lined with cloth, making sure there aren't any gaps anywhere around it larger than about 1/4 inch, and it is buried into the ground about 6 inches. There is a Phoenix-based business (they do rattlesnake removals and snake fence installation) that posts a lot of YouTube videos, one of them explains the requirements of a truly snake proof fence.
@HistoPol @jnye
They showed why 1/2" hardware cloth isn't enough - even though a lot of people install it instead of the smaller mesh... they used a baby rattler, about 2 weeks old, to show how easily they squeeze through a half-inch hole.
Scary. I'm so greatful that I can only see them at the zoo...behind security windows. :)
