The experience you have on social media, and to an even higher order of magnitude on fedi, is in very different bubbles. The feed you see is very different than others.

You may see a feed that has a lot of writing for one community, then some anti-social behavior happens in that space and it gets amplified and fills your timeline. Meanwhile, another TL on here will see other anti-social behavior and it gets amplified and fills that other space.

We don't often have "main characters" on here, and instead there are these clusters of activities in various micro-communities.

I honestly feel like it warps perception, a lot.

@rose this is one of the things that I try to be extremely conscious about — just because I don't see something someone is calling out doesn't mean it isn't happening. Because my instances moderation could be totally filtering that out from my perception.

@CynAq @rose this is why I think despite its abuses fediblock is important. Because even when someone puts a false accusation or whatever on that hashtag, at least then we know where those accusations are coming from and what the receipts are for them and can identify the fact that they are false. And it's why honestly I think it would be best if we had some kind of community maintained and sourced wiki where admins and even users who've had direct experiences can contribute their knowledge of those experiences to a common database of knowledge about various instances and major figures and their behavior, and receipts demonstrating that knowledge wherever possible (much like Wikipedia prefers citations), so we can find some kind of common consensus reality and also share information needed for the safety of everyone.

@anarchopunk_girl @rose And that's precisely why receipts are very important in communicating what the issue is.

Without transparent vision into every issue that's raised, we can't form healthy opinions on anyone.

Given how disjointed and isolated fedi experiences are by design, we NEED the receipts to understand what's going on.
