   if a cycle bell is ringing behind you, just move to the right. don't suddenly walk towards the middle and turn around to see who is coming, don't stop your cycle or dog or whatever to switch sides. just go to the right.
   
   the alternative is me zooming past you with 40km/h and scaring you. that would suck as well.

     @kaia Cyclists should be using the road most of the time. Shared bridleways are one of the only times peds and cyclists should be together.
     
     I have no sympathy for scooter users, however.

     If you are on the pavement as a cyclist then it is your responsibility to slow down or use the side of the road to get by. People walking are not going to know where you are nor expect a bell to be ringing at them so they need to look to see where you are to figure out where to be. Where I am, you should be riding on the side of the road anyway unless there is a dedicated cycle lane.

     same here. it's illegal to cycle on the sidewalk as an adult.
