Methodology that includes the indefinite running of proprietary software? -

Pointing out that it's incorrect to refer to proprietary software as "libre" hasn't got anything to do with ideological purity.
There wasn't a problem with the previous osboot and libreboot naming before, as the FSF could endorse free software such as libre-libreboot.
>rather than trying to find practical solutions
GNU developers have started to audit cleaned versions of coreboot to make GNUboot, which is a very practical solution in my experience.
>which will in the end make more people use foss.
I wish to jihad against gratis, source-available software myself (99% of people than hear "Free, Open Source Software" assume it means that and refuses to think anything else).
Popularity as a goal dooms freedom to fail.
The FSF aims for 100% software freedom and is working on that goal - freedom enjoyers choose to come to freedom themselves rather than needing to be "converted". -

One big thing I'd say is getting caught up in issues of ideological purity (see the recent libreboot debacle as an example), rather than trying to find practical solutions which will in the end make more people use foss. -

Dumb Idiot Retard (idiot@shitposter.club)'s status on Friday, 01-Sep-2023 20:39:29 JST Dumb Idiot Retard @dushman They're too spread thin, and ultimately, completely unequipped to tackle the root of many issues (not the software, but the hardware and firmware it comes with.) They can correctly identify problems (cellphone bad for your freedom) but cannot provide a valid, useful solution (lol just use a Galaxy S (1) from Europe with Replicant, lol just use a Pinephone I guess whatever, lol just don't use a phone at all.) It's the Greta "it's not our job to provide solutions we're just here to complain about problems" meme.
Someone needs to be ideologically pure to provide a rhetorical north star for everyone else to frame reference against, but technology has simultaneously gotten so necessary and oppressive that they end up defanging themselves in the process.
Also I follow them on Fedi for the odd update and they constantly botpost spam with garbage. I don't need to read the first paragraph of the preamble on the timeline, I don't need to see that the same animation you've been spamming about for months was translated to Mandarin, take a fucking chill pill guys I already give you my money.ロミンちゃん likes this. -

Dumb Idiot Retard (idiot@shitposter.club)'s status on Friday, 01-Sep-2023 20:42:06 JST Dumb Idiot Retard @dushman moreover, refurbished computers cannot be a solution to all that ails you. There aren't enough Thinkpad x200s/T400s to go around for everyone, and we're quickly reaching a point where there won't be enough for ANYONE, and nobody at the FSF seems to care or have a solution to that problem. Which is among the reasons I'm sure that Leah decided to capitulate a little bit with the whole blobs debacle in Libreboot. ロミンちゃん likes this. -

Maybe, but they were manufactured in the millions, so there's still quite a few left.
>we're quickly reaching a point where there won't be enough for ANYONE,
Decent computing hardware doesn't break down that fast.
>nobody at the FSF seems to care or have a solution to that problem
There's still plenty of KGPE-D16s to go around, plus there's quite a few computers that work in freedom that aren't thinkpads.
There are plans for GNUboot to support more boards once the first release is finished I believe. -

I have a corebooted thinkpad running OpenBSD myself but stuff like that is absolutely not the solution for everyone. I still use a much more powerful desktop rig for most things. What good is "freedom" if you can't do what you wanted in the first place?
