I'm looking for a new email provider and I came across cock.li (http://rurcblzhmdk22kttfkel2zduhyu3r6to7knyc7wiorzrx5gw4c3lftad.onion) for privacy. Sadly it seems invite-begging is concentrated around reddit, which I obviously avoid and don't even have an account on.

So, I guess I'll try my luck and scream in to the void (once). Anyone willing to discuss about giving me an invite to cock.li?

My email usage is laughably small, so I won't take much space or bandwidth.

I'm also willing to entertain any alternative services, but obviously will do my own research before joining your personal honeypot.

@susie :comfyeek: i dont recommend cock.li because that dude which does hosting it, does things i dont support at all. Lets say that he has a similiar kind of mindset like the admins of fse, poast and baest. Beside of that, he also tolerates knowingly state actors/organizations and there were multiple situations that his servers got abused. One might overlook the first argument but it would creep me out sharing the mailserver with state actors and abusers.

@susie according to himself, he just trolls. But that doesnt really matter when he provides services for non-trolls (as i said, similiar to fedi instances) and there are the other arguments.

So, about anonymous email services in general... Does it have to be that anonym? Because every mail you send or receive will potentially end up unencrypted on the other end anyway... Yes its sad that protonmail gave logs to the authorities and therefore it should not be used for serious stuff, but if you wana true anonymization, then mail is the wrong medium imho... For my throwaway accounts is protonmail fine enough and to my knowledge there has to be at least a legal process to take a look at my accounts.

Otherwise how about hosting mails yourself? https://mailinabox.email/ does a good job.

@Jain Is that so? I only found good things said about him and the service he runs. Though it was a bit difficult to see if all that trolling nonsense he does is humor and not that he's taking any of it seriously.

I guess there really isn't any good anonymous email services run by small groups of people. Either they are antifa groups or far right trolls, or just otherwise incompetent or trying to milk their users for money.

Corporations aren't much better though. It's neigh impossible to trust their claims and privacy policies when even Proton mail gets bossed around by the law enforcement (which more than anything shows their no logs policy was just buzzwords).

Not that it's so important, since I'm not an activist or anything like that. I'd still like though if my shopping habits and whatnot weren't sold for third parties. I'll keep using Runbox for a bit longer I suppose, even if their services aren't that cheap when need more than couple accounts (family members etc).

@EpicKitty @Jain Thanks, I'll have to consider self hosting too I suppose (though I rather not deal with the headache, given people keep calling self hosted email the hardest thing to host properly).

As for anonymity; I'm fine with trusting for example my payment information to site, but need to have some proof that they aren't data mining and selling my emails (preferably not even reading them/storing them longer than they need). So no, I'm not crazy enough to do some cash in an envelope nonsense or cryptocurrency bullshit.

I do need POP or IMAP access, affordable service and multiple accounts. (Preferably free to try things out). No advanced features or big storage, but PGP automation could be nice. Oh, and I suppose the domain should be pronounceable (if move family members over too). Runbox has been okay so far, except it is a bit pricy.

@Jain@blob.cat @susie@blob.cat +1 for MIAB, We've been using it for our community emails for years now and it's solid. That being said, the gray listing feature can get a little interesting if you're not used to it since emails from new sources won't come through straight away but we have next to no spam because of it
