@coolboymew The Decline of Gaming was foretold back on Newgrounds by three Brits and their adventures in the land of Flash. Here’s the YouTube of their animations. Highly quotable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LGQ9NSDZbU
@coolboymew Very funny that he dropped this video in 2022 right before 2023 happened
2022 was a shit year for gaming but holy hell have we already made up for it and then some (also post-reboot assassin's creed is better than OG assassins creed don't @)
@coolboymew BG3 released and it's literally the highest rated PC game ever made (at least the last time I checked) We got Zelda Tears of the Kingdom (sitting at 96 on Metacritic) PS5 gets a new Spiderman game (and these are extremely beloved) Starfield drops in a couple weeks, Beth's biggest game ever We got Hi-Fi rush shadow drop in January, Which was extremely fresh and very unique and new and a total blast Bomb Rush Cyberfunk which is the first Jet Set-like we've gotten in 20 years ARMORED CORE 6 JUST DROPPED
@coolboymew And I left out all my racist games because they have limited appeal, but we are getting the first Test Drive game in like 10 years (Test Drive Solar Crown) And also a Forza Motorsport Reboot which I'm extremely hype for
@coolboymew@ocean is budget the thing that makes something dribble ayy? I'd argue that AC6 is a big industry flagship but on the other hand I have no idea how this works anymore
@coolboymew@moth_ball@ocean its still published by bamco. idk $ but elden ring and dark souls 3 were definitely AAA marketing. fromsoft's low tech engine and lack of celebrity voice actors doesn't exclude them from being a big part of the industry. AC6 is certainly higher on the list than FF16, which has been treated like AAA since at least 6
@why@moth_ball@ocean I really don't agree. A lot of games were published by Enix back in the days, which released Dragon Quest. Were all AAA? Hell no. I don't think the publisher dictates this
You can see the AAA rot in Square to the level where they're being beaten by fucking Pikmin 4
The thing about AA, mid-tier and smaller devs is that once upon a time they were able to release high quality innovative games that were more or less on par with the biggest studios. This fell off during the HQ gen, more and more, but there's still a few studios that manages nowadays
@romin@coolboymew Newgrounds has been implementing siteside Ruffle support for a good many of its games and animations, apparently. I checked in with them today and saw a few that still prompted me to download their own “Flash Player” app (Windows only), but others just loaded Ruffle, even though I didn’t have it installed as a plug-in, and stuff like Epic Battle Fantasy 2 by Matt-Likes-Swords played like in the old days. That place is truly a living bastion of 2000s (and beyond) net culture. Hell, culture in general. And I’m torn between wanting all the Zoomers and Gen Alpha to know about it and get educated in the proper ways of things (humor, design, quality, content, etc.) and never telling them jack about it so they don’t ruin it.
