     @kaia I have thought about this many times and can confirm that it is indeed safe, though you should be careful not to chew too hard or you're gonna strain your jaw muscles. Also don't buy the cheap shit

     A friend of mine chews on licorice root sticks if I remember right and you want something designed for humans. I don't think you need to go as far as using a product designed for animals (and typically pet toys don't go through the same level of testing as those designed for use/consumption by humans). Added bonus is they look like like wooden sticks you could have picked up off the ground 😆

     also this reminds me that chewing toys for babies are also a thing and not just way cheaper, but also probably with way less lead than dog toys
