A friend of mine chews on licorice root sticks if I remember right and you want something designed for humans. I don't think you need to go as far as using a product designed for animals (and typically pet toys don't go through the same level of testing as those designed for use/consumption by humans). Added bonus is they look like like wooden sticks you could have picked up off the ground 😆
