   I'm a bit sad. I've tried to bring people over to #Mastodon with what are good arguments to ME: #NSFW content creators will eventually be shadowbanned or booted off a platform as soon as there is advertisers or payment processors demanding it. For marginalised people, Mastodon has powerful tools to stay safe.
   But most people I talk to do acknowledge that and then go on to stay on #Twitter or sign up for #Bluesky.
   But I understand the discoverability issues, it's Mastodon's greatest weakness IMO.

     @AimeeMaroux Ya, sounds familiar. Just today I wrote a short piece about why I've left Twitter for Mastodon, going into detail why stuff like blocking whole instances is great and whatnot. And first reply was, literally, "have you tried Bluesky?"

     As if yet another siloed platform by the same dude who "gave" us Twitter, and agrees with many of Musks decisions, would be the "solution".

     @nggalai @AimeeMaroux I don't really agree with either or arguments. I would have stayed on #Twitter if they hadn't kicked me off - for using a VPN too often I can only guess.

     And I'd happily try #bluesky - if someone offered me an invite - but i wouldn't leave here, unless I no longer liked it here. I use #Matrix and #telegram too.

     Diversity is good. Everyone should be everywhere they have the time to be. After all that's how we use our offline time.

     @Turnimunt @nggalai I have the time for one main social media platform and maybe a secondary one.
     I'm an erotica writer, so it's not just about what I find enjoyable but where my readers are too and where I won't be shadowbanned or excluded.

     @AimeeMaroux @nggalai Well from that standpoint, I'd say some parts of the #fediverse are a very good bet - though not necessarily #mastodon

     #pleroma and #misskey are a lot more tolerant of #sexual content in my experience.

     The same is true to a lesser extent for #akkoma and #firefish

     @AimeeMaroux @nggalai To some extent, yes, but there are broad differences in the type of instance. There are no real #pleroma guidelines so you can post whatever the hell you like there, within the law of the server country.

     There are very few #pleroma instances where your very mainstream work would have any issues. If you look at the feed here you'll get a feel for what I mean.

     The only things they ban are the sorts of abusive material none of us want to see.

     @nggalai I am working on a piece arguing why Mastodon is the best bet for NSFW content creators but I do understand the concerns about finding an audience. Mastodon doesn't show up in analytics either so it's tough to say how many people actually follow your links. I had thought nobody came via Mastodon until I found out it shows as a direct hit rather than via Mastodon.

     NSFW may be allowed on Bluesky now, in the beginning it always is. NSFW creators only get the boot once the platform is big.

     @AimeeMaroux Considering Bluesky is Jack's pet (so far), and he historically hasn't been fond of subscription fees, and more into advertisments and whatnot, well, yeah. My bet would be for Bluesky being sorta open until they reach the numbers they want, then give NSFW and fringe content that may bother potential advertisers the boot after the fact.

     @nggalai I think that is the most likely course as well, especially considering how things have played out on other platforms.
     Even though Twitter technically allows NSFW it felt like my reach had been reduced vastly well before EM bought it.

     @AimeeMaroux The issue is that #federatedNetworks appear "hard" and are inscrutable to people used to clicking OK on a #EULA without reading it. People who don't understand that they are saying "please take my #privacy and my #rights." People who think that #appStores are great rather than voracious organizations with predatory commission structures.

     Average users don't want to think why things are #free and easy. They will also be the ones to complain when a for profit corporation changes their rules in a way that affects them, the user who believes the internet is somehow "free".

     The #fediverse is fantastic because no one organization can take it down, and you can change servers if you don't like your current server's new rules. But explaining that to #normies will get you a blank gaze of incomprehension.
