This is a very GenX flavored post, considering the majority of the IRL boomer hate I hear is actually directed at them. The cohort born 20 years after the baby boom (“early” gen X, like 1960 and up) are usually the ones people hate the most.

The actual chronological baby boomers around me generally worked, have roles that give them a street level view of modern life for us….the gen X’ers are the ones who inherited, or managed their way into a comfy niche and now lecture you about how “ungrateful” you are for turning your nose up at $15/hr for work he made $35/hr for 35 years ago

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Humpleupagus There’s too many bugmen in all generational cohorts, though in my limited sample size GenX has more contrarians and cynics than other groups, though I will admit, it’s still rare.

@EvilSandmich @Humpleupagus It likely comes down to how lucky and harworking they were in life. Overall the most “boomer” people I see are the upper middle class, comfortable people telling their teenagers “just go out and get a job, go to costco, demand to see the manager, and don’t leave until he hires you at 17 yo!”

@WashedOutGundamPilot @EvilSandmich @Humpleupagus Gen x would like people to forget they inherited the west when it was still white, easy to get a job that paid well and housing was affordable and were players in its demise by also taking out housing and car loans they could not repay cause fuck having a regular house or sedan when the bank will give me a loan for a 750k mansion and a 75k escalade while I make 65k a year. They also loved bringing in immigrants and Bill Clinton. Not saying they all were bad but them acting like they all are these cool dudes who didn do nuffin makes me sick. "Man why y'all complaing I just got to enjoy the height of Rome and helped it fall or just watched it fall and did nothing bro"

GenXers that went to high school in the 80s can be a bit dense. The 90s kids are different though.

@nierenstein @Humpleupagus Chin up though. Having ZERO is a better point than having a lot at 24 and watching it become negative value around your neck. You have time at least, w/ work and a network that can become something wonderful

I didn't have shit at 24, except my girlfriend, now wife. I did have a job that paid just enough to pay rent and buy food, but I went back to school again a few years later.

@Humpleupagus Also I”ve been meaning to hammer on this GEN soyrace shit after being inundated with “CHEECH AND CHONG HAVE NEW WEED GUMMIES” adverts every time I open my inbox. Gen Xers love pretending they’re the cool, laid back party folk their heroes were 30 years ago while bitching that kids now are stoned out of their minds and lazy as shit.

These guys are clients often enough, and I have to listen to them bemoan the downfall of customer service, quality, and utility on every consumer front while bragging about how they spent THEIR youth getting blazed and being lazy. They even do weed today now that it’s so widely available, but because they’re high up on the managerial/biz food chain nobody holds them accountable.

I’m just tired, I guess. We’re all boomers in the end. Millies are taking forever to grow up and leave childish lifestyles in the past, zoomers are approaching 30 while pretending they’re seventeen forever….. everyone refuses to look at the clock

@MoralPanic @Humpleupagus ON the upside a whole lot of normies are figuring out the score. It’s been blowing me away lately, seeing accelerationist, exclusionary, preparatory language coming from regular, working, busy people with no interest in politics.

It’s promising in a way that previous “awakenings” were not

I think one big issue that is causing things to fester, though is very subtle, is that, at least in my experience, a lot of things just seems a lot harder to get done. It's almost like everything I have to do in life results in some conflict however minor. No one wants to help anyone anymore. Instead, it almost seems like they want to make every transaction as difficult as possible. It's no longer "hey, how can we help you? How can we get this done?" And more "why the fuck are you interrupting / inconveniencing me?" It's gotten worse since the lockdown. And while it's subtle per transaction, it has a huge effect. It makes everyone very cynical about "the system" and cycles out from there.

@MoralPanic @Humpleupagus Yet we’re even more childish than that. At least living in college mode forever meant sex, networking, and parties. Ours is masturbation, vidya, and drugs. I get why, but I still don’t like how it’s our norm and we all pretend it’s okay wasting our lives.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Humpleupagus We can point to several reasons why but the blackpill is that we might just be on the dying end of a civilization and this is just what happens. People become selfish, greedy, and ultimately apathic until something new comes along. I view WW2 through that lens, it was the final stand of the old world and we're stuck in the aftermath.

I think it's also because positions are being filled by incompetent people. For example, I regularly deal with state and federal administrations. They're hiring based on race and gender, not skill and ability.

For example, the last four people I dealt with at the IRS were black females. Imagine how that goes given I'm a White male. The only time I see a White guy is if I'm in Tax Court.
