    Based on my experience and testing, the following online translators are good for the following languages.

    My favourite: https://papago.naver.com

    * Korean (use the honorific option)
    * Japanese (don't use the honorific option)
    * Chinese
    * Thai
    * Indonesian
    * Vietnamese

    I haven't tested Spanish, French, German, Russian, Portuguese, Italian, and Hindi, which are available on #Naver #Papago.

    Second in rank: https://deepl.com

    * Brazilian Portuguese
    * Portuguese
    * Turkish
    * Polish
    * German
    * French
    * Italian
    * Spanish

    I haven't tested Bulgarian, Chinese (simplified), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swedish, Ukrainian.

    For Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, I get complaints that the translation is weird. I use Naver's Papago translation instead.

    Special mention, #DeepL is the only one with Brazilian Portuguese.

    Summary:
    1: Naver's Papago for East and South-East Asian languages.

    Also, Naver's Papago translation service also offers OCR translation and pronunciation/voice, and other learning features.

    They also offer an installable app for #Android, #iOS, and #Mac platforms, other than the web version.

    2: DeepL for European languages

    3: Yandex for Russian and other European languages, also good with Chinese (traditional and simplified) and Japanese (but I still prefer Naver Papago). Yandex also offers #OCR translation.

    How about you? What's your experience with the #Neural translators above?

    Or maybe you know of other Neural translator services?

      @rival You're welcome!

      I hope we get to see a Star Trek-like universal translator soon. ^_^ I mean, not the badge, rather the accuracy of the translations.

      @youronlyone@c.im @youronlyone@firefish.social during your tests have you translated to English or to other languages as well? Reverso is my favorite for Western languages, because it provides examples of context usage too

      @kc Ahh! Those are good information! The feedback from the people I asked about it were mainly focused on if they understood the translation.

      I agree, these things are important as well. Thank you sharing! I've taken note s of those ^_^

      Do you have other online translator that can do better in those areas?

      @youronlyone@c.im @youronlyone@firefish.social from experience with Norwegian, Google Translate is OK but it only does literal translations. You'll need to structure your text towards that of Norwegian to pass.

      Deepl for French is great, but it can totally screw up the structure and meaning of the sentence and has a tendency to swap tu (informal) and vous (formal) almost at will.

      Deepl for Spanish - not great when handling Latin American Spanish, especially with localised slang

      Reverso does a decent job translating directly from/to other languages, not only English. That's a feature most engines lack.

      @kc I hear good things about ChatGPT translations. But I'm worried about the same… and the AI might change it to something else it will benefit itself LOL.

      @youronlyone@c.im @youronlyone@firefish.social I've not found one just yet, but then again I just make do and fix the results by hand 😅

      ChatGPT might be an interesting thing to look at for translations, but I've not done it enough to know if it'll translate what you wrote or just hallucinate your original text

      The world is getting smaller faster than our translation options can catch up. We are always on the hunt for a good translation service.

      @youronlyone@c.im @youronlyone@firefish.social Yes, it would be nice to be able to communicate universally without the fear of an improper translation... In the other hand, it's also very good to learn other languages (but certainly more time demanding...) 🤓

      @rival True. It's also good to learn other languages. There are so much things we can discover and understand just through the language alone.

      Currently, I'm working on my Korean. I like how there are similarities with our language (Filipino) when it comes to hierarchal respect. Though theirs is stricter.

      I tested the #Reverso neural translation this week and last week thoroughly, and wow, I haven't heard a single complaint from the people I replied to, and they understood my replies well.

      Tested:
      English > Reverso > Language

      Languages tested:
      * Arabic
      * Spanish
      * Ukrainian
      * French
      * German
      * Hungarian
      * Italian
      * Turkish

      There are other languages available, but I prefer using the ones created by those who speak it as their first language. For example:

      #Naver #Papago translation for Korean, Japanese, and Chinese.

      #Yandex Translate for Russian.

      What I haven't decided yet are some of the #SouthEastAsian #languages available in both Reverso and Papago. Both, so far, are working good.

      #CustomerService #CustomerSupport #translations #multilingual
