     It's simple and cheap and lightweight for people to run their own relays and the clients are getting better all the time

     Server-to-server is only a half of ActivityPub spec. There's also client-to-server: https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/#client-to-server-interactions

     It is also possible to sign activities on the client side.

     It's mostly the same concept wise execept uploads are stored somewhere else. Also, the nostr relay software is incredibly easy to install and maintain versus fediverse software and barely used any resources.
     
     The key difference on nostr is that clients do all the processing and on Fedi the server does all the work

     The same is true of instances, and many backends also work on other networks. (e.g. Pleroma over i2p.) What's the reward for hosting a relay?
