OliverUv (oliveruv@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 31-Jul-2023 21:10:29 JST OliverUv @garius from what little I've seen (I'm not really into football) it at least seems like there's a whole lot less faking being hurt to cheat the referees in the women's tournament. So it does seem more civilized, to me.

There's WAY less drama like that, because players can't afford to be seen as 'weak' (as that's used by people to dismiss it as a sport).
With my Vice Chair of a Women's Football Club hat on, this is a blessing and a curse - means sometimes players don't admit/know that they are legit injured and gesture to looked at.
So it's a tricky balance.

a lot of it is helping players overcome YEARS of being just having to do it on the playground and beyond. But you can still see it as an issue even at WSL level.
