If bigots on the fedi truly believed their communities were superior, they wouldn't be banging on our doors trying to bully us into not blocking them en masse.

They know without the ability to harass us, they would just turn on each other.

I remember joining the fedi back in the day and immediately noticing how hateful it was, so I talked about it.

The popular response was, 'Then start your server and leave.' Ha, so I did. I started Play Vicious.

And those same people who told me to do my own thing harassed us to such an extent my team didn't want to do it anymore.

Those same people are now bitterly complaining about defederation.

It's not about blocklists and defederation. It's about control. They want to solely influence who does and doesn't get to be in this place.

PV was a gear in the works because they didn't want Black and Brown folks here, so it pissed off many people that it became popular.

Because it proved, the fedi could be more than a white utopia. It proved the fedi wanted to be more than that.

And as bigots are, they've never let that go.

@jebba @Are0h the problem with that as a default for fediverse instances is that it makes siloing, centralization, and network effects far easier. If you make instances siloed by default, it kind of defeats the purpose of federation allowing people to freely move and associate without necessarily having to leave their whole network behind, because the *default behavior* would then become that if you move instances you'll be disconnected from your old instance — and thus forced to leave everyone behind — instead of that having to be a specifically-chosen special case.

What do you think about doing a blocklist of everything by default, then just approving servers that don't suck?

#TheBadSpace wasn't created for some personal vendetta against whomever.

It was created to identify sources of harm and people that cannot stay out of our communities and are constantly trying to instigate confrontations to push us off the fedi.

It was created to organize our efforts and create a systemic solution to systematic hate-based harassment and abuse.

Even though it's in its early stages, it's working because we are talking and sharing information about where the abuse is coming from.

And the sources of harm on the fedi did not anticipate that.

@jebba @Are0h I don't know if that would really help because it would seriously cut off and disadvantage new and small instances. I totally understand the problem you're trying to solve with this but I think it causes other issues

      @anarchopunk_girl @Are0h

Well, I don't mean it would be a single silo. Like the approved list would be perhaps a few thousand servers or so, as the network grows. As a starting point, the Fedipact servers could be used.

So basically he wants 5K for allocating a server to run his software that looks like ass (doubt it costs that much to host it) and 15K to hire some people (dude trust me bro) to help him develop it and then 20K to pocket himself :blobcatnerd: (probably will pocket all of it)
