     Do people actually go and see Barbie and expect it to be a shallow celebration of 80s sexist corporate toy lines?

     It is clear from the trailer already that to some degree or other Mattel is going to be ridiculed.

     What the trailer doesn't tell you is that it's full of twists and turns and stylistically at least three films. One third is like in the trailer, but there are preachy moments, there are moments that stylistically could have been in Oppenheimer and there are moments that are just completely off the rails because why not.

     Barbie is trending in the US South and hoo boy are they in for a ride. Ben Shapiro already went on a 45-minute rant on how horribly woke the film is. 😃

     Yes, that's what I expected.
     
     Except I know Mattel faces lots of pressure over the unrealistic anatomy and the idea that the dolls could feed into anorexia & bulimia, so I'd expect so.e concessions.
     
     (Not like Robin Williams as Popeye, who kept the giant cartoon forearms.)

     @lnxw48a1 What rather happens is that the movie heavily satirizes and downright berates unrealistic body images, vapid role models and the fantasy world of Barbie while giving some concessions for good intentions.
