   Recently a meme pic has been floating around, showing a dinner table at an academic "conference on decolonization" featuring only white-looking people.
   Does anyone know the origin of this pic? Like if it was a real conference, or just made up for fun?

   (Curious because I think I'm about to write something on current uses of the decolonization concept.)

     @Loukas All right, thank you (I really don't know celebrities by look haha).

     Anyway, there are of course plenty of historical examples also of colonialism within Europe, where ideas of white supremacy were not as central to legitimize colonial rule. Just think about Finland, Ireland or Ukraine. So it'd be wrong to assume that decolonization must always and everywhere be first of all a BIPOC thing.

     @rasmusfleischer Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox are at that table so I don't think it was a decolonisation conference. Maybe some racist's attempt to depict the liberal ((Hollywood)) elite?

     @avadeaux I don't think we should even try to draw a sharp line between coloniality and other forms of international relations of domination. But indeed Finland was colonized by Sweden – and by Russia, the empire that even built itself a new capital in newly colonized Ingria.

     @rasmusfleischer Sidetrack: You mention Finland, do you mean because it was under Russian rule or also because it was part of Sweden? Continuing on that tangent, is Skåne another example? After all, it came under Swedish rule after Finland and parts of current Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Germany. (I always enjoy pointing out that Lund was not Sweden’s second university but the fifth, after Uppsala, Åbo, Dorpat, and Greifswald.)

     @avadeaux Även jag kommer ju från det gamla Östdanmark (befinner mig just nu i Halland) men tänker spontant ändå inte på försvenskningen som kolonialism. Men samtidigt på flera sätt jämförbar. Och man talar ju om kolonisering även i fråga om germansk expansion i baltiska/slaviska territorier kring Östersjön från medeltiden och framåt. Så kanske? Tror som sagt man får närma sig begreppet pragmatiskt snarare än kategoriskt eller moraliskt.
