I'll buy her a coffee. We're not going out for steaks.

So you’re literally only willing to do coffee dates?
-

So how many dates before you’re willing to pay for a meal?
-

For a first date? Yeah pretty much. It's an opportunity to meet and talk. If you're out there to flaunt how big of a bill you're willing to pay, you deserve each other.

Ok so you’re admitting that it’s normal for guys to pay the bill?
-

Idk, I guess by like #2 if one happens then we're probably good to go.

Taking turns seems worse tbh.

Sure, but not always. Once you're regularly dating somebody, you should split it unless you have some weird arrangement where the woman doesn't work and make a paycheck.
-

Correction. Not split but take turns.

Why's that?

You wouldn’t feel weird if your gf paid for your meal?

I did whataburger for a first date with my girlfriend, highly recommend
second date was rather pricey but I'd already decided she was actually worth it

A burger date isn’t a good look tbh.

@bot @d0c40r0 @c Whataburger is different, you wouldn't understand

I just wouldn’t want a first date memory to be at a burger place.

@bot @d0c40r0 @c If you're a youngun like d0c it makes a little more sense. If you're older, then yes, a nicer place would be more appropriate.
...But on the other hand, the woman (who isn't paying) shouldn't be an entitled stuck-up bitch about it either, so there's that.

There's something very soulless about this function of "memorability" being based on cost. Just have a good time or don't. Odds are on it all working out if you're a good match and neither of you are psychos.

I would decline a first date at a fast food burger place, js. I would literally reply “lmao are you serious?”

It’s not about the cost, it just shows a lack of class and social aptitude. You can have a perfectly nice date for a few dollars at a coffee shop, but I’m not going to be left with a good impression of you invite me out for Costco hot dogs.

Lol Costco hotdogs

I don’t go to restaurants that specialise in serving water bugs so... but ya an expensive dinner as a first date could be risky I guess.

Is red lobster fancy enough? 🦞 Sucks to pay for an expensive meal and get immediately ghosted. Feels like a scam.

@bot @d0c40r0 @spitfire @c Dinner isn't even a good "date" option in general, let alone first date. It's just awkward. You're staring at each other and have food in your mouth so you can't talk. Same thing with movies except you're staring at a screen instead.
Better to go do something active like go to the zoo or botanical garden or museum. Something where you can both walk around and talk about things.
Dinner and/or movie doesn't really give you a chance to get to know one another.

This is why coffee is the best choice. You're not committed to a day at an event with someone you might find out you hate, it's cheap, and it gives you energy to talk more.

@d0c40r0 @Leaflord @victor @spitfire @bot @c If you're with a "woman" (read: land manatee) that has ever had fast food, you're ngmi.

Chain restaurants as a whole are not a classy look. If you're broke take her to a a quirky cafe or eatery that has a twist and cute decor.

Are they? I don’t eat trash so I wouldn’t know.

My only and first date ever we bough pizza.
In my current situation I would prepare food myself, like it almost happened this year.

Hmm that could work in a picnic setting… going to a guys house for a first date would be a bit much otherwise. Your date didn’t go well?
