   @thomasfuchs In France, hateful speech is illegal and punished by law. Free speech is a constitutional principle, but abuse of it (harrassement, defamation, promotion of nazism) is not allowed. Because freedom can not exist without boundaries, and it is defined by “everything that do not harm other people”.

     @thomasfuchs Absolutely. It's definitely something I have debates about in my head all the time.

     I would love to see shit like hate-speech and deliberate disinformation banned, but my fear is that conservatives will weaponize it anytime they're in power. They already see discussions of racism, class, LGBTQ sexuality, etc as “hate speech” against straight, white Christians.
