@antnisp I don't think I understand this. You're saying KDE has the ability to fetch desktop images from Microsoft for some reason? Or you're just suggesting I disable Microsoft's thing and install a third-party random lockscreen image addon?

What @antnisp means is that Microsoft gets its images from Bing (yep, their search tool that they don’t want to see die yet), and Plasma is of course able to scrap the Bing website daily to get the same daily background as Windows does.

A note: It's possible to disable the ads, but the only way to do so is to disable the random-lockscreen-images feature, which I actually rather like and appreciated before Microsoft started adding ads to it. Since up until now those ads have usually been for like… coupon books or something (seriously) I've just grumbled and tolerated it. Now MS is showing me ads for the AI plague, which is intolerable, so I guess I'm finally turning the feature off.

@mcc If I am understanding your problem, you can still get the Image of the Day logged out/ad free. Plasma can get both the image and the description. I am sure someone has adjusted that for Windows too.

It will never stop blowing my mind that Windows Professional is a multi hundreds of dollar product that shows you ads on your own computer's lock screen. There is truly no coexisting with capitalism

The most insulting part of how this screen is set up is the "Like what you see?" button. You'd think this would allow you to give feedback that you don't like them showing you an ad. But it doesn't. It sends non-text feedback on the *photo*. You're not allowed to have opinions about a thing you paid money for showing you ads.

@thomasfuchs @csolisr @antnisp I don't select software based on whether it is bad or good. I select software based on how much I personally hate the company that made the software
