     The decision was 2 to 1, and likely effects #Tennessee, #Kentucky, and #Ohio, all of which could either pass gender-affirming care bans, or may do so in the future.      The idea that we should only uphold rights that are deeply upheld in this nation’s history and tradition is absurd. This standard would eliminate rights such as privacy in your own home, gay marriage rights, and more. Meanwhile the things that are deeply rooted in this nation’s history and traditions are things like the theft of land from indigenous people, interracial marriage bans, Jim Crow laws, discrimination in public housing, and more.

     As a trans person who recently fled Ohio (along with my family), this doesn’t surprise me, but it still terrifies me. But just like Erin says, this could effect more than just people in those states.

     It’s true the biggest reason myself and my family of 3 fled Ohio is because we are all trans (nonbinary), but also because of Dobbs, since we all can theoretically get pregnant. And Ohio is not messing around, they already have a gender-affirming care ban HB 68 (https://www.legislature.ohio.gov/legislation/135/hb68/status) was recently passed by the House, and will surely be passed by the Senate, which has a Repub super-majority.

     We saw the writing on the wall, we made a plan, we begged for money, we fled in late May, we are continuing to beg for money. It was not easy, and we were aided by privilege. Many in our community cannot leave Ohio. Others do not want to. Some of my friends from Ohio were confused at our reasons for leaving Ohio.
